Believe in Your Own Unlimited Potential and Your Students Will See It in Themselves

Many well-intentioned parents, intermittently, over time, have told me about their child’s diagnosis of ADD, ADHD, OCD, ODD, Spectrum Disorder or another development disability. I let them know, “your child might have them, but I don’t want to see your child as a diagnosis.”

You see, I do not care that their child has ADD, ADHD, OCD, ODD or whatever. Those are obstacles that are not their child. Their child may have that diagnosis, but that kid definitely does not want me to see him or her as a diagnosis. As a Danish philosopher and theologian, Soren Kieregaard, said, “once you label me, you negate me”

I tell parents who raise these issues, “I want to see your child as they are – a pure positive, limitless being.”

So many times, children are labeled and that label becomes their source of identification. It limits them, makes them fearful and weak and causes them to feel that they are lacking what a “normal” child has.

Our goal as teachers is to help them strip away all those filters (a.k.a., limits) and help them find and tap into the genius that resides inside them. According to Matthew Kelly, brilliant theoretical-physicist Albert Einstein wrote “Everybody is a genius. But if judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid”
As teachers, we are a mirror that reflects on our students. When we acknowledge and strive to achieve our pour, positive, limitless potential, so will they. When we teach from that vantage point, you feel connected to your source and you can move mountains.
Sometimes our ego gets in the way. Ego and reputation are what other think of us; our character is what we truly are. Other times, we let certain events in our lived impede us in becoming all that we can be. We start getting away from the now, and we weaken ourselves by living in the past or worrying about the future.

Remind yourself that the point of power is in the present. So what is the ultimate, good-source energy? Really simply: unconditional love. Have unconditional love for yourself. You are not that “meat suit” you are wearing.  You are much greater than that. You are not limited by your past, your parents and other being on this planet. You are much greater than that. You are not limited by the state of the economy or by any limitations of your art. You are much greater than that.

So, be limitless in your words, thoughts, and actions. You create the world you live in one golden moment at a time, and now is your time. Pass this magic onto your students and not one of them will ever feel disadvantaged.

Take your cue from Albert Einstein, the genius who discovered the theory of relativity and forever change how we view the universe.
